Default Recruiting Techniques.....?

I've been recruiting people for my guild since the day of release, but I can't manage to really increase my guild size. Right now it stands at about 8 people, and only 3 are active, and 3 semiactive. The other two are friends. Each time a new person is invited, they leave the next day, even if I take them capping or something.

Any tips on recruiting people and getting them to stay?

There are so many guilds out there that there will always be a "better and bigger" guild to join. Most guilds are just a bunch of people together who share the same cape. Ya know, the "Yay, I spent 2k for a cape -- join my guild!" kinda guilds. Your guild needs to have something unique that you offer, something that members see and think, "This guild offers something other guilds don't." They also want to see that there's activity, something exciting going on that's worth sticking around for. Solid leadership is also a key componet -- someone who's leading the guild in a direction that people want to go in.

Overall, though, building a solid guild takes time and committment. Our guild started back in betas and has grown to almost 40 members after many people coming and going (and being kicked ). We're selective in who we take as a member, too. We have never spammed chat channels in-game begging for people to join. Rather, we present something exciting to the GW community and wait for people who want to rally alongside us.

As a guild leader, don't get discouraged if people leave your guild. Personally, I feel that if someone isn't committed to the guild and doesn't want to be in it, then I'm glad that they leave. I don't want people in our guild who don't like it but stay just out of obligation. That's not very helpful for morale.

IMO, building a solid guild seems to be a long-haul process. Maybe for every 5 players you accept only 1 of them will be committed and stay. Yeah, it's discouraging to see the other 4 come and go, but don't let that make you neglect the 1 who stays. Stay positive about that 1 person instead of getting upset about the 4 who leave. Say, for example, you accept 40 members and see 32 take off (theoretically) but 8 will stay. That ratio seems to be a little high, but you get the point. With some time the guild will build. It just takes a while.

It also makes a lot more work for the leader and officers in recruiting. Fortunately, in our case, all applicants are ones that have approached us for membership instead of us actively trying to find people to join. That cuts down on a lot of time spent, too.

But anyway, as the leader, decide for yourself where your guild is going and find people who want to go in that same direction. A leader is not a leader if he's not leading anywhere. Leadership is much more than just having your name at the top of a guild list.

Hey. I know the exact feeling. My guild had the exact same problem when we first started off. We had about 10 members with only 5 mostly 4 of them including myself active. There are many guilds out there with the exact same problem. You would be suprised how many.

What you need to do (which is what we did) is to find these other small guilds and merge together with them. You may need to do this a couple of times depending on how big the guild your merging with. These forums are an ideal way of finding another small guilds to merge with. You wont be able to recruit people one by one due to the problem you mentioned - They will leave. They did with us too.

Alternatively - You can all merge with my guild (Hate Breeders). Our member count is somewhere between 40 - 50 About 20 - 25 of us are on line everyday, unfortunatley only between 10- 15 are online at the same time due to different time zones. We are UK based and on the European servers. PM me if interested.

yeah , a guild is not a bag full of items , each member is a human.

my advise is :

change guild statement time to time , and make a MSN groups web page , for private forum .. its good to arranje meetings etc etc

the issue is that most see how cheap it is to start a guild and want all the power, personally i dont want to be a leader. officer at most, but even then...

honestly, just be that rare person with no cape and look like a rebel. besides u will see more of that armor u spent 100k on

Make the guild as humane as possible (as in, like another poster said, so that they really feel like they are in a guild). Get people involved. Carefully select the type of person you want for the guild (and don't make exceptions).

You can try running guild ads, or playing with people in PvE/PvP, then inviting. Try out both.. Maybe one works better for you than another? (I've had success before with both).

Most importantly, like another poster said, make your guild unique. You need to distinguish yourself from all the other guilds to get members, otherwise, why should they join your small guild over a very large, active guild?

Offer benefits like dental plan w/ 100% coverage or medical insurance w/ up to 50mill in life. Stuff like that matters, if you can pay for car insurance also, people will flock to your guild.

actually the best way to start a guild (borrowing a leaf from sB's book) is to win hoh in a pug with no dedicated guildies in it

that way theyl stay because sigils > guild hopping. if you get a base of 8 intelligent players and especially if your guild name shows up alot the rest shouldnt be too hard.
